About Les - Personal

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.      – Margaret Mead

I am at heart interested in nothing less than changing the world. I believe in the power of compassion, cooperation, and collaboration. I believe in the power of personal transformation. I believe in the power of acting with integrity and in harmony with deeply held values.  Perhaps most of all, I believe that the key to transformation – of individuals, relationships, and groups – lies in the mindful sharing of stories, through which we blend our essence with one another. To that end I founded The Moments Project, dedicated to the belief that remembering and sharing our defining life moments helps individuals be more present in life, deepens a sense of shared humanity and connection to others, and makes the world a better place, one personal story at a time.

By training, I am clinical psychologist dedicated to understanding people, relationships, and organizations. Areas of professional expertise include a “positive psychology” view of the behavioral aspects of altruism, motivation, health conditions, disability medicine, learning, and professional ethics. Curious by nature, I have a wide range of interests and experiences that lead to broad understanding, tempered by a commitment to scientific inquiry and evidence-based practice that brings focus and grounding.  I seek to be fully engaged in whatever I do, and with whomever I encounter.

On a personal level, I am a father of 6 of the coolest kids on the planet and married to the woman I always dreamed of. Fly-fishing, running, woodworking and building are avocations that balance a strong work ethic. Though my meditation practice is intermittent, I seek always to be mindful. Like my personal hero, the Dalai Lama, I believe that the deliberate practice of compassion for all is the best hope for humanity, and the ultimate solution to human suffering.

Whether I am teaching, motivating individuals or group to their highest potential, working with disabled individuals, helping others come to grips with the intricacies of disability medicine, or simply being present in the flow of life, I strive to bring both insight and effective strategy to the table. My ability to see both the essentials of a problem and the essential nature of those who will solve it gives me a unique perspective on life and living.

I am available for speaking engagements, individual and organizational consultations to help you get the most from yourself and your teams, and as a professional consultant in disability medicine, health psychology, and professional ethics.
